Inspired by her Great Aunt (both Australian), an adventurous spirit, Merryde once arriving in Uganda (1999) fell in love with the country and its people. “The natural beauty of the country, the fabulous climate, the warmth of the people and the relaxed lifestyle all contributed to me feeling as if I had ‘come home’ “she says. “I saw the opportunity of realising another lifelong dream to live and work in Africa”.

Gately on Nile Lodge is renowned as the country’s first and most reputable boutique lodge & guesthouse having opened in April 2000. The establishment has expanded and retained Gately’s rustic yet elegant ambience. The Gately guarantees you or your client, friend or family will leave the premise feeling more relaxed yet recharged than they did on arrival.

Gately’s main reception building houses five tastefully decorated en-suite bedrooms. The Lodge is flagged by several thatched roofed Banda’s scattered through the exotic gardens offering private lounges, dining and resting space for all.
