This 2 Days Akagera & Lake Ihema Wildlife Safari takes us to Akagera National Park for a game drive and to Ihema Lake for a canoe ride to see the water animals and birds. Akagera National Park once protected nearly 10% of Rwanda was considered one of the finest wildlife reserves in all of Africa. There are three distinct environments in the park and if you are lucky, you may even get to see the elusive shoebill stork.

Day 1: Exploring Akagera National Park

Morning: Depart from Kigali, Rwanda's capital, early in the morning (usually around 6-7 AM) to maximize your time in Akagera National Park.
Breakfast: Stop for breakfast en route or have a packed breakfast if provided by your tour operator.
Arrive in Akagera National Park: Reach the entrance gate of Akagera National Park, complete necessary paperwork, and meet your experienced safari guide.
Game Drive: Start your wildlife adventure with a game drive in the park. Akagera is home to various wildlife species, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, and numerous antelope species. Keep an eye out for predators like lions and hyenas.
Lunch: Enjoy a packed or picnic lunch at a designated spot within the park, surrounded by the natural beauty of Akagera.
Afternoon Game Drive: Continue your game drive, exploring different parts of the park and increasing your chances of spotting wildlife.

Day 2: Lake Ihema and Return to Kigali

Early Morning: Wake up early for another game drive or a guided nature walk to catch sight of the wildlife when they are most active.
Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation.
Explore Lake Ihema: Visit Lake Ihema, the second-largest lake in Rwanda, and go for a boat ride to observe aquatic wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species.
Lunch: Have lunch, either at your lodge or a designated area in the park.
Departure: After lunch, start your journey back to Kigali.
