Our client is a global non-profit dedicated to providing safe drinking water to schools. The company delivers reliable, low-cost water treatment technologies to public and private schools in  Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda.


About the Role  

This position contributes to the company’s overall mission by leading and supporting seamless fiscal, operational and human resource management systems, procedures, and processes. The ideal candidate will have solid process and fiscal management skills, knowledge of non-profit and fund accounting, and a working knowledge of human resource laws and best practices. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with specific expertise in fiscal management and fund accounting, human resource law and best practice, nonprofit management and governance, and IT/operations management. He or she will play a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic decision-making. In addition, he or she will have excellent written and oral communication skills, and a keen interest in the company’s mission. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Lead the annual budget development process, monitor expenditures and variances, and proactively update expense projections
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports 
  • Manage annual audits and serve as primary liaison with auditors
  • Oversee tax preparation, filing, and compliance
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and month-end closing
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, systems to ensure compliance

Accounting and Bookkeeping

  • Manage bank reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, balance sheets, invoices
  • Update books (e.g. QuickBooks) with financial data
  • Supervise inventory tracking and reconciliation
  • Monitor budget utilization
  • Process bid analysis for key procurement
  • Coordinate importation logistics with suppliers and freight forwarders
  • Oversee insurance coverage for staff, assets and compliance

Treasury and Compliance

  • Uphold ethics, manage confidential data with integrity
  • Guide leadership on tax strategy and compliance
  • Stay updated on policies/regulations, ensure adherence
  • Process payroll, tax withholdings, statutory reporting accurately and timely
  • Ensure timely renewals of licenses, permits
  • Develop and implement internal controls, risk mitigation strategies

Operations and Administration

  • Oversee office management, facilities, document retention
  • Develop emergency planning, risk assessment, security procedures
  • Negotiate, prepare and monitor vendor/consultant contracts
  • Oversee HR functions - payroll, benefits, hiring, training, policies 
  • Supervise finance and admin department staff and lead continuous improvement
  • Foster culture of accountability, collaboration and professional growth

Strategy and Leadership

  • Provide strategic financial planning aligned with organizational goals
  • Assess risks and opportunities, implement optimization strategies
  • Drive process improvements by leveraging technology and best practices
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to evaluate programs, advise on initiatives
  • Lead and mentor the team towards operational excellence


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting or Finance). 
  • Master’s will be an added advantage.
  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and excellent computer skills including MS Office.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and corporate finance principles and procedures.
  • Proven track record of success in senior finance leadership roles, with at least 5-10 years of experience in a similar capacity.
  • Sixth sense for value for money
  • Ability to interpret financial/operational data and provide strategic insights to inform decision-making
  • Strong business acumen with an interest in organizational strategy and operations
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, fostering a positive and inclusive work culture.
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver, results-oriented, with a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Strong records management and analytical skills, with a keen eye for accuracy and efficiency.


Salary/Benefits 

  • Salary range: 6,000,000-8,000,000 gross per month
